RE: Vermont Foilage

I was in the Northeast Kingdom of VT last week and saw some color already coming on. I would say in a couple weeks it should look really nice in that area.

RE: Encore Royal Coach RV Resort-Nokomis Florida

We stayed there for a week in February (two years ago). It was nice, clean, convenient, lots of amenities, well run, etc. Some sites are small, but aren't they all in FL.... There's a circular road design so plots are somewhat pie shaped and some seem to be tighter than others. In retrospect, the prices were "steeper" than most other parks, especially in prime season. I would go there again if I wanted to "bite the bullet" from a price standpoint.

I think the bottom will drop out if we have a massive world wide recession but who wants that? Those that like to manipulate this commodity ought to be very careful. JMO

Here's a decent listing of MAINE Campgrounds by area. Click on "info" for each region then click on "View Campgrounds". The closing dates are listed for each park along with other information.

I have sealed lamps on my Rv. Replacement of the unit(s) runs between $4-$7 ea. depending on which unit. I must say it is one stupid design.

RE: RV batteries. What's good?

I didn't know that 6 volt batteries were a "myth". Can you explain that? is this an intentional misperception (trolling) or what? Is it necessary to put in page after page of qualifiers and explanations or can we expect some reasonable level of topical awareness based on the content of the many discussions on these threads?
The "myth" is that there is something special about a 6v battery that makes them more suitable or better for RV service. An expression of the myth (for example) is "For boondocking for several days then a true deep cycle (like a golf cart battery) would be a good choice."
This is a myth because there is no true deep cycle battery normally available for RV use (that is, one that is designed for long life to a nominal 80% discharge state) and your battery choice is always a trade-off between capacity, cost, and life no matter the voltage.
For best life, you need to make sure you have enough battery so you don't discharge them too deeply as a normal thing. You need to recharge promptly and properly. You need to store and maintain your batteries properly. Wet cell lead acid batteries such as the 'golf cart 6v' or other RV rated, should last 4 - 6 years or so. An AGM battery might get you a year or two longer lifespan. (re Az Wind Sun FAQ)
now, to figure out why there is such a religious zeal on this topic ...
No trolling here. When one makes statements that mis-state or mis represent facts, they should be questioned. Your opinion is fine as you decided to make an attempt to correct the posture of your previous statement. Well taken...thanks.

RE: RV batteries. What's good?

Get batteries from a reputable retailer who sells a lot to folks who use them like you do and will stand behind what he sells.
Don't fall for the 6v or true deep cycle myths and don't worry about brand.
See Basic battery guidelines for some ideas about how to get the most from your batteries.

RE: Trading down??

We recently sold our 17.5' fiver and purchased a 25' fiver. Surprisingly there was no difference in the amount of diesel the truck uses when towing. If you're wanting to go smaller to save fuel, it's likely you're not going to save enough $$ to make the exchange worthwhile.
I agree here 100%. The cost of trading (down or up) = alot of gas!

RE: What the ...?

Last year I was passing a car on a two lane road and the guy behind me was passing along with (behind) me. When the guy behind me figured he might not make it in time, he decided to pass me also in the opposite side breakdown lane. This all happened as the original car we were passing decided to speed up from 45 to 60 over the 1/4 mile stretch. It was scary for me but the oncoming car had nowhere to go as his side breakdown lane had a car coming towards him. Lots of idiots!!!

RE: How bad is 95 between Baltimore and Wilmington,NC?

It's all a matter of timing....I've traveled that route numerous times and if you stay away from weekday rush hours, it's typical northeast corridor trafic....can be heavy but usually moves unless there's an accident. I still think it's my quickest route north/south if I time it right.

RE: South Jersey to Maine- Good overnight spot about halfway?

If you decide to stay, ask them to direct you to the ice cream place right down the road. I can't think of the name of it but it is fantastic. (Maybe McKinley's ???)
That just might be Kimball Farms, Rt. 110 in Westford, MA....about a 5 miute from Miuteman Campgroud. Great place for some decent ice cream.

RE: Keeping Sewer Hose Off The Ground

I don't get it either! People get really worried about these hoses, and the different support arrangements mean "just one more thing" to set-up, clean and store. My one concession to the "sewer hose obsession" is the belief that they can't be throughly rinsed - and I replace them often.
I just lay mine on the ground and let gravity do its work. I prefer to let the dips form a sort-of "trap" to stop sewer gas from coming up the hose and adding to what might already be coming out of my roof vent - and blowing near my fantastic fan - into the living area.
Kinda agree here....never really seen the need to keep this sewer component off the ground. It's a dirty sewer hose....and gravity has always worked for me. JMO
